Ayurveda, also known as science of life, is considered to be the world's oldest health care system and the traditional system of medicine in India. Ayurveda is made up of two Sanskrit words: Ayu which means “life” and Veda which means “the knowledge of.” According to the ancient Ayurvedic scholars, "ayu" is comprised of four essential parts: mind, body, senses and the soul.
It is believed that Ayurvedic Medicines originated in the early civilizations of India some 3,000-5,000 years ago. According to Hindu belief, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe imparted the knowledge of Ayurveda to Ashwinikumaras, the twins who were believed to be the physicians to the gods. This information was then passed to Lord Indra, and he instructed Dhanwantari to spread this invaluable science of longevity on the earth. It is known that Ayurveda is based on two ancient treaties: Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita.
Ayurveda offers personalized treatments based on lifestyle revitalization, diet, exercise, and yoga to restore and maintain balance in body and mind. The Ayurvedic Treatments are entirely different from the majority of conventional cures because of their unique approach towards healing. The principle of Ayurvedic Treatment is not only to treat the sick but the sickness too. Ayurvedic Treatments also emphasize examining the doshas/prakriti, or the natural states of individuals before proceeding. It is said that having a balanced state of doshas, agni (digestive fire), dhatus (tissues) normal functioning of mala (waste products), cheerful state of atman (soul), sensory organs and mind are the symptoms of a healthy life.
Unlike other cures, Ayurveda takes the body, mind and soul of an individual into deep concentration as the unit for diagnosis. Hence, it even recognizes negative emotions like anger, fear, insecurity, jealousy and greed in an individual.
Because of its wide approach in curing an individual, Ayurvedic Medicines have become an increasingly accepted alternative medical treatment. Ayurvedic and Herbal Medicines ensure physical and mental health without side effects. Also, Ayurvedic treatment is non-invasive and non-toxic, making them safe for using as an alternative therapy or alongside conventional therapies.
Besides depression and stress related problems, Ayurvedic methods also help in treating acne, allergies, asthma, anxiety, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, colds, colitis, constipation, diabetes, flu, heart disease, immune problems, inflammation, insomnia, nervous disorders, obesity, skin problems and ulcers.
