How many people would understand that when we decide upon a NAME for the Creator of the universe that we're in all likelihood determining our destiny- to the degree that we have any control over that. A person's NAME, the names of the Creator carry the attitude and thoughts that we ahve about such a Being.
The Creator of the universe is too big (infinite and omnipresent) to be LIMITED to one anme or even one concept.
I see the Creator as FATHER. I grew up with that concept and I will never NOT see the Creator as my Father who loves me and takes care of me. It's a name that Jesus used, so I'm in with it too! However, to only see the Creator as Father is to fall into a theistic concept of a PERSON out there somewhere. That's not an automatic, but a common conclusion if the only name is Father. It's often tiems more subconscious than anything else.
I also call God SPIRIT, the all-encompassing Spirit which can take on a more "cold" approach. Again, not necessarily, but it easily follows.
I also call the Creator just that- CREATOR, but when I add the name and concpet of CONSCIOUSNESS to the mix, I now become a co-creator. I know my role in that paradigm and it means I sit in the right hand seat (as co-pilot). But what begins to take shape (at least for me), is that I now have the personal touch of a FATHER, the mystery of the SPIRIT, and the active involvement with CONSCIOUSNESS which I sum up as............. I AM!
WE ARE, all of us together: ONE! And therefore I can and do love even my enemies. It's not an easy thing, but as Richrd Rohr recently wrote, 'When the church begins to take in and love the outcasts, it is finally becoming who it is meant to BE. And therein my destiny and those who are around me CHANGES!
I am being transformed by the names and cocnepts that I embrace of my Creator.
Are you? :-)
