It may be New Age thinking when people speak of contacting your spirit guide, but it is also very important to know why these entities play such and important role in your life. An 'entity' is inferred to have its own living or nonliving existence, but exist it does. Spirit guides are those entities which have a hand in your life, protecting, healing and guiding you spiritually, and forming a link between the earthly and spiritual worlds. You may also need the help of a medium or clairvoyant to reach your guide.
When a psychiatrists speaks about people who hear little voices in their heads they find this disturbing and the comic will make jokes about them. But most people who hear the voice of their guide are hearing these little voices. Little because the voices are generally fast, high pitched and even cartoon-like. However if you hear many voices and confusion, this actually might be the time to seek help.
Spirit guides play a significant role in many cultures including and not limited to North American and East Indian, Tibetan, Egyptian and Chinese. They are not a Guardian Angel, this is a different entity.
People may, and many do actually see their guide, and they can look as ordinary as you and I, or as different. Their approach will be kindly as it is their aim to communicate and nurture you on this earthly plane. If their appearance is scary or fearsome in anyway, this is not your spirit guide.
They will have a name, or you may name them, you may also ask them whatever questions you like, but keep an open mind. They know everything there is to know about you and have been with your from birth and before.
They known what has made you happy and sad, what your ambitions are. Listen to their advice but only if it is sound advice, if it is destructive or detrimental to you or others, you will have misunderstood or the advice has not come from your guide. Because they are here to protect, only GOOD can come from them.
