Pre Menstrual Syndrome 49 – Pre Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Homeopathy

Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women's menstrual cycle, it effects a women's physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss how Chinese herbs use to treat PMS.

I. Definition

Homoeopathy is one of the older form medical practise using "like cures like" invented by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. He believes substances that cause symptoms of the disease is possibly used to cure it.

II. How homoeopathy effects women with PMS

1. Nux vomica

Nux vomica is one of homoeopathy medicine used to treat symptoms of PMS caused by nervous tension caused by over active of brain cells as resulting of over drinking or eating food with stimulant. Nux vomica also used to treat women with PMS caused sluggish liver in synthetic carbohydrate and fat and protein metabolism resulting in sugar and oilly food craving.

2. Natrum muriaticium

It has been used to treat symptoms of premenstrual symptoms caused by water retention by acting as an agent which helps to alter and restore the tissues of the body so they can assimilate the body's needs for salt from food.

3. Lachesis

4. Pulstatilla

In premenstrual syndrome. pulstatilla helps to nervous tension such as night time headaches caused by hormonal imbalance before ovulation, stress that feel as if head is about to burst. emotional, tearful and restless nervousness.

5. Sepia

Sepia Acts specially on the portal system with venous congestion, therefore it helps to relieve pain extend down to back including uterus pain and headache in cerebellum for women with PMS.
