Have you ever wondered what is mysticism? I am rather curious about this word because mysticism is not something we usually hear. It seems to be a thing forgotten. Something that is cloaked and hidden. You see, I doubt the religions of the world would want you to know what that word really means. Perhaps, It concerns truly seeking that life which transcends this mortal existence. If you discovered the truth, that would make you a great to all that is false in this world.
So, I wonder do you understand the question we are pondering. What is a mystic? Is there such a thing? And if so, does it have meaning. Exactly what is mysticism? Definitively, one may say that mysticism is to go into that which transcends the mundane everyday life and its natural phenomenon. A mystic would be someone who can see beyond the normal perception of this life. And the futile attempt to join in communion with the divine. If there is such a thing. There may not be anything beyond this life of sorrow, darkness and death.
So I am pondering if you are at all interested, if there is something truly sacred beyond our everyday existence. Is there actually life after death? And if so, how are we as human beings to discover that for ourselves, actually? Let us not depend on what others have said. We can no longer depend on the likes of Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha of ancient times or those who purport themselves as being contemporary spiritual teachers of today.
Now, to go into such a thing, I must be of a sober mind, right from the start. One that is not cramped and distorted by any belief, idea or faith that taints the clarity of ones seeing. All such thinking and belief must be dropped, completely. Also, ones whole life must be in order on all levels of existence. Physically, mentally and emotionally there has to be a certain order and integrity. In so doing, there is no distortion in ones perception as much as possible. You understand? So we are asking, if there is something truly beyond the mind, the very temple of ones being, must be opened and completely receptive to that which is sacred. We can say that, there has to be a total cleansing of the temple of ones being. We must be bare, stripped of all things so that one may discover that which is not a thing. We must be completely empty within so that if there is the sacred essence beyond this life, it can come and fill ones whole being.
So, we started this inquiry by asking what mysticism is. We are not divulging in the exotic or anything considered bizarre by any measure. We are asking is there truly something beyond this life and if so, how does one awaken to it, actually. Not according to what has been told to us. One must see this for oneself. There is no such thing as hearsay in illumination. One can not give enlightenment. I can only point it out to you. It is clearly a journey within oneself and not a verbalized idea.
You must see this for oneself. It can not be given by words and their definitive meaning.
Therefore, to discover something beyond oneself, obviously the instrument which is limited can not lead me to the ultimate. If there is something truly holy, truly sacred, it can not be fathomed by ones imagination or carved by the cleverness of mind. So, to come upon the sacred, I must enter death. In fact, why be afraid of death. It may be the most precious thing. The death that I am speaking of is an actually process of discovering what you are. Death is the ending of the idea of a separative self in which you think you are.
Realize that, as you live, you must die. These words have been echoed through the ages. But are they true? Have you done so? Have you entered this living death to discover if there is life beyond death?
Here and now, we are asking and exploring this life. We are examining its validity. Perhaps, it is an illusion of separation in which there is no division in life. Perhaps, there is only a false impression to see through. But, who knows. Can I tell you? There is no such thing as giving this to another. You must look within yourself for the truth. For truth can not be corrupted or captured by any means. No one can give this to you. Not the Christ, Buddha, Eckhart Tolle or Deepak Chopra. As a teacher, in the true use of that word, I can only point it out to you. You are truly on your own no matter what you believe in. The spiritual journey within is your very own.
To look in a book of ancient scriptures or the latest best seller, is not the solution. This can only be discovered within oneself. The definition you may find in a book does not come close to this glory that is within me. No words can describe it. That is why one can only speak, ambiguously. It is beyond all measure and description. To even call it enlightenment falls short of this glory. There is no feeling that one can compare to it. In spirituality this is the true reality. It is futile to even think you can pray, praise or worship the nameless. It's so great, it glorifies itself!
So I say to you, seek and when you awaken to this glory beyond the furthest horizon of mind and matter, come back and tell the world what you have discovered. If you can.
