The Wiccan Rede: Harm None

Learn the broad perspective of the Wiccan Rede. In this article I tell my view on the Rede and the power of the divine that is all around us at all times. This dawn of New Age is a blessed and magickal one for those who have the love and courage to embark.

Have you ever sat down and thought or meditated long and hard on the broad meaning of the Wiccan Rede of harm none? I think that the Rede goes far beyond the general understanding that people have about it. As a Wiccan, you must have love and respect for all things that are a part of you and the world, this includes all of nature. You cannot litter, have abortions, and/or abuse anyone or anything and say that you live by the Wiccan Rede. Now your offenses are almost always forgivable with sincerity and remorse. But at some point we must stop making the same mistakes over and over again. The divine will expect us to learn from our errors. Do you realize how great the world would be if every single person lived by the Wiccan Rede?

The Gods are love and light, and when you harm, you are showing that you have no respect for them. We must turn from hatred toward our fellow man and woman, we must be tolerant and reject resentment. Do not allow yourself to be remembered as someone full of hate and inconsideration.

As long as the divine is with you, nothing shall defeat you. Their energy and power is inside of you, and is strong enough to overcome any obstacle or challenge. However, you cannot live by the Rede only during ritual, but everyday of your life. I can bear witness to the fact that your evil will come back to you. There is no action without a consequence.

Since Wicca is a religion that can combine with many others, let us look at one of the ten commandments, “Honor thy father and mother.” You cannot say that you honor your mother while harming mother Earth. I don’t even drive a car anymore than I must. Those who cut down entire areas of forests, you do not honor your mother. If you pollute, deface, litter, dump chemicals, etc, you are not honoring your mother. Or, if you believe in the Judeo-Christian God as the Bible speaks of, how can you love and honor him without loving and honoring his creations?

The Wiccan Rede also applies to your own body. If you smoke, glut alcohol all the time, do drugs or gorge yourself with food, you are harming yourself and not following the Wiccan Rede. Now I know there are people who are hooked on these bad habits and feel as if they could never break free. I cannot say that I know how you fell, because I do not. However, I do know that people have broken these addictions. Through the God and Goddess, there is no obstacle you cannot overcome, there is no mountain you cannot move, for their energy and spirit dwells within you.

At this time, I want to offer you a chance to start on a Wiccan path. Pray, “Great God and Goddess, please pardon any offenses I have committed against you, and I pray that you will shine your divine light down upon the path before me so that I may find my way. So mote it be.”
