The world is an illusion. This is a view held by Vedanta, Sikhism, Buddhism, Plato, Arthur Schopenhauer, Christian Science, and A Course In Miracles.

Contradicting this view is your own sense experience of realness, the constancy of stimulus, the enduring nature of time and events.

Which view is correct? The idea of the illusion or your experience of the realness?

This answer proposes an objective observer, one who is not part of the system that is being observed. Newton held that time is absolute. Einstein held that it is relative to the observer. Perhaps that same paradigm shift can be applied to answering the question of what is real and what is not.

Those who propose that the world is an illusion are correct.

Those who propose that the world is real are also correct.

The idea that the world is an illusion can be argued in the following way.

1. You do not see the world as it is.

You see the world as you are.

This happens in two ways:

One, you can never escape your subjectivity. You may claim that the world is objective, but this is a claim made from the subjective state. Hence, if you were to lose your mind, you would also lose the world. Without an observer, there is no world. With your disappearance, the universe disappears. Does it exist despite you? If you are not there to ask or hear the answer to the question, it has no meaning.

Two, the world that you see is a direct result of your experiences in it. A rock is not just a rock; it is also your memory of all rocks seen by you.

2. All forms will pass away.

Entropy is built into the system. Nothing can escape this iron law of nature. Neither beauty nor truth, wealth nor power, genius nor intent ever last. Death and decay is the lot of everything, from atoms to stars, from our own sun to the universe itself. However, this collapse is a dissipation of energy, not an absence of it. According to the law of conservation of energy, which has never been refuted, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. What dies, then, is the form of things, the structure the energy was supporting.

3. The microscopic.

On the level of atoms, a vast space exists between the electrons and the nucleus, and even the subatomic particles are not solid bits of matter but transient energy forms that appear and disappear and reappear again. It is mainly empty space.

4. The macroscopic.

On the level of the cosmos, a vast space exists between stars and moons and planets, gas clouds and nebulas and galaxies. The universe, too, is mainly empty space.

5. The field of all possibilities.

On the level of the consciousness that organizes all things, this world is only another possibility out of an infinite choice. How many worlds with sentient beings exist? Is our universe only an electron in a cosmic atom? Given a field of infinite choices, how much weight does one choice hold?

The idea that the world is real can be argued in the following way.

1. What you are experiencing is real to you.

When you think of the world as an illusion, a sense of despair arises because it slights the beauty of your realness. It is pleasurable to touch and hold, to see and hear, to act and change things. It is ennobling to see the vast sky above your head and feel the wind in your hair and hear the squawk of a passing bird. It means much for us to be here and to be alive in this moment.

Neither science nor philosophy can deny the realness of your experience.

And in this context, even your dreams are real enough, because while you are in them, your entire experience is authentic enough for you. If you are being chased by a lion in your dream, it will feel as real to you as if you were being chased by one in the waking state.

2. Who you are is important to you.

Your life is important. You desire to be more than you currently are because you can feel the vast throb of life within you expanding ever forward to know more, experience more, and touch a fullness not yet known.

Your past is not just useless memory but a scrapbook of struggle and change, triumph and adversity, risk and new learning. Your present is the vividness of your current experience. Your future is your promise, to yourself and to the world.

Reality, then, is not fixed. It is an interpretation of consciousness and how it is interpreted depends on the inner and outer experiences of the observer. The world you live in is real enough to you as you live it. If this world is an illusion, does it mean that there is a really real world, as Plato conjectured. Probably not. If this world is an illusion, then so, too, are all worlds. And if this world is real, so, too, are all worlds.

Appreciating the miracle of having a consciousness to live in a world may be all we need to know to live happy, fulfilling lives, whether in this world or in other worlds which we will transition into after this one.

Consciousness, like the law of conservation of energy, can neither be created nor destroyed. Where you find consciousness, you will also find energy structured into the form of a world. And since consciousness never dies but appears to only grow increasingly more refined and sophisticated, worlds, too, probably evolve along similar lines. Are these worlds illusory or real? They are real enough to those who live in them.

False Evidence Appearing Real   

Fear would be the first thing to give up due to its non-existence. In a textbook called The Course of Miracles, it states, ?The correction of fear is your responsibility. When you ask for release from fear, you are implying that it is not. You should ask, instead for help in the conditions that have brought the fear about. These conditions always entail a willingness to be separate. At that level you can help it.?

It took you years and years to get where you are right now, and it took (maybe) years and years to clutter up your home, so don’t expect miracles now that you finally started decluttering. A complete overhaul type of decluttering won’t happen overnight or even over the course of a day. It will take time and it will take effort but if you keep at it you will be able to make a sizeable dent in it within a month or two.

And this is decluttering on a small scale. If you up the ante even more, and take entire evenings once in a while to decluttering your home, and even an entire morning or an entire day, you will find that you’re making larger and larger inroads into your clutter. That doesn’t mean that you need to devote every single moment of your precious free time to it. It just means that you should expect to devote a small part of it everyday. And the trick is to make it a portion of the day that you won’t miss. If that sounded confusing, it wasn’t meant to be. Everything in your home should have its own designated place. This applies to everything. If it doesn’t have somewhere it can call home, then it will end up as clutter somewhere else in the house. And when this happens, you will probably notice a spiraling effect takes place. When one thing accumulates where it’s not supposed to be, others will generally follow suit. One thing will lead to another and you will find that you have yourself a small center of clutter. This is where it all decides to congregate regardless of your wishes on the matter.

There is only one way to deal with this. Declutter! Take these things and put them in their rightful homes. If they have no homes, find them new ones. And if you just don’t like, or need it anymore, throw it away! And make sure that your family knows that things have their own place and that they should be put back after use. This is an especially good idea to instill in the younger kids because they’re probably more trainable than your older ones!

Tennis Secret Revealed – Bushman Trained Jim Courier and Pete Sampras!

Would you believe that two of the very best tennis players that ever came from the USA were once trained by an African born Portuguese bushman?

In these days of doom and gloom many of you may not believe in miracles or BIG dreams, I tell you, I do!…and so should you. Why?

You see I was born in a place called Vila Manica (in Mozambique near the border with Zimbabwe) and lived most of my youth in the Beira corridor.

In simple words I was just a bushman who developed his tennis in between hunting and tracking wild animals, fishing in lakes and rivers infested by crocodiles, snakes and all sorts of poisonous insects.

In the end I became the N1 player of Portugal, beat some of the best players in the world, played all over the world and Coached Jim Courier who became the N1 in the world. I even helped Pete Sampras as well!

Of course I was not some sort of “Crocodile Dundee”, I was just the average kid who lived between two worlds one of modern life and the other the bush.

First picked up my BB gun at eight years old and went to shoot a few birds around the neighborhood or anything that moved or had a tail, lizard, snake or whatever slithered around was shot!

Do not take me for a killer monster it was Africa in the 60ies. Later on going across the swamp to avoid several kilometers walk to go to the Hippodrome to ride horses was also par for the course.

Yes, I do not need to tell you what kind of creatures lurked in that murky place.

At around 12 years old getting up at 4 in the morning on Sunday to join a group of friends by bike to go fishing some 20 or 30 kilometers in any direction where we had been told there was a great place to fish tilapia or ‘mussopo’ (a sort of huge cat fish, that by the way we did not eat!) be it a river, a dam or just a plain lake, there we went!

For us it was no different to what life is even today to millions of African kids that either have to ride a bike, run or walk to distant schools from the jungle or to the jungle. We were privileged kids we did it for the fun of it for the adventure.

Oh yes! Crocodiles and other unfriendly creatures like boas, mambas, spiting cobras,were around, that did not stop any of us (insane souls!) from wadding into those waters almost waist high for “that special spot”!

Of course on our way to those great fishing or hunting spots we could have easily fallen prey to other formidable predators like the big cats, a pride of lion, a solitary leopard, or some dog like creatures with huge fangs called hyena and even by a gang of marauding baboons!

After all we lived not too far from a huge game reserve the Gorongosa Park and wild animals, just like all of us, love to go for outings and a change of diet.

Well do you believe in Angels? We must have had an army of them! Nothing ever happened to us kids!

If my father, that died at 92, knew what I was doing then, he would not have lasted to be 40! And I would have gotten beaten to a pulp before he died with the heart attack!

Surely I learned plenty about hunting, tracking, survival and the bush and its inhabitants.

There was one thing though, that I enjoyed more then fishing and hunting trips with friends and some adult professional hunters, that was tennis!

Yes, tennis! I started playing “tennis” with wooden paddles (similar to the ones we see today at the beach) that my friend and Cook, John Onion, and myself had designed and built in my fathers hobby-shop.

After school I spent a good hour everyday with John just playing volleys to each other, I must say John was a great volleyer!

Here I must make a break on this story and tell you who was and what John Onion represented to me.

A friend, a great friend much older then me, of a different color then me, he was very black, but to me color was and is not an issue, John was someone that I will always remember as one of my best friends ever!

John taught me how to make a bow and arrow from scratch, showed me how to track and stalk an animal, how to make animal and bird sounds, create traps of all sorts and how to camouflage with nature. Tennis is about that too!

Showed me that “ufa” with dried fish tastes great and that termites taste delicious fried in oil (a bit like shrimp!) and a great source of protein.

He also told me about the lore of certain animals, like about the ‘kizumba’ (the hyena) and that when sleeping in the open you should always cover yourself fully with a blanket, especially your head! ‘Because the ‘kizumba’ will come and eat your ears and nose!’

Oh, yeah, for many years even though inside my house, I covered my head before I carefully stretched my hand out to turn off the light in my bedroom.

You could never know!

Oh yes, that was my great friend John Onion!

At about eight years old Santa was listening and a beautiful red and white Spalding tennis racket, Pancho Gonzales signature, was waiting for me under the Christmas tree. That was the beginning of the realization of a dream and a fantastic trip in the world of tennis.

Along the way I met an immense amount of very special people and mentioning some of their names to you is most dear to me:

Fernando Lage (MOZ), Brian Rooke (SA), Don Black (ZIM), Mrs. Smith (ZIM), Richard Howes (Aus), Aldo Schiebler (ITA) and Harry Hopman. These were people who inspired, nurtured and motivated me to be a champion.

If in your life you ever come across wonderful people like this, you will know how hard it is to say good-bye and in essence how never to say good-bye, just ‘thank-you’ instead.

Whatever Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Cedric Pioline, Tim Mayotte, David Wheaton, Brad Gilbert, Mark Knowles, David Nankin, Grant Stafford, Bonnie Gaduzek, Julie Halard, Mary Pierce and hundreds if not thousands of others think of Sergio Cruz is for them to judge. One thing is sure though, what I passed on to those players would never have been possible without the persons I mentioned previously, because without them, Sergio Cruz, the tennis player would never had existed.

Now, imagine that one of the most prestigious Tennis Academies in the world owned by no other then I.M.G. (International Management Group) the largest sports management agency in the world, trusted their most precious assets and clients Jim Courier and Pete Sampras in the hands of a “Bushman”!

fan and student of A Course in Miracles, but at first the text and Lessons seem quite difficult to comprehend because the Course is written in iambic pentameter! Through this series of articles, it is my intention to share in a simple, easy-to-understand way, some of the words, prayers and lessons that have inspired me within the Course.

For those totally unfamiliar with A Course in Miracles it is a self-study spiritual thought system with a central theme that teaches the best way to achieve peace in our hearts and in the world, is by forgiving ourselves and others. It teaches us to look at everything through the eyes of God, including ourselves and recognize that all relationships are holy – most especially our relationship with ourselves.

This article is about Lesson 78 which touched me because it deals with how we keep our miracles away from ourselves by holding grievances against someone else. This Lesson also speaks about forgiveness, which is a consistent theme throughout the Course.

The quote that particularly touched me in this Lesson is: “Let me behold my savior in this one You have appointed as the one for me to ask to lead me to the holy light in which he stands, that I may join with him.”

A bit of a mouthful eh? Don’t stop reading yet! Let’s break it down into sections and make it a little easier to understand.

So the first section — “Let me behold my savior in this one” – yes, THAT one – the one that might have just sprang to your mind. It may be R

Hmmmmm . . . new idea? Did you perhaps just let out a big sigh that you didn’t know you were holding?

Continuing with the next section: “you have appointed as the one for me to ask.” I really like this because it allows us to view the situation from a completely different point of view . . . that God, in His Infinite Wisdom, and the Divine in each of us in our Infinite Wisdom, has created this person, this situation, as an opportunity to reclaim our divinity, which we have obviously temporarily forgotten.

This one, this person, this situation, this circumstance offers “to lead me to the Holy Light in which he stands” . . . because of course, in Truth, that person is a Child of God JUST LIKE ME AND YOU. Your Divine Self knows that and issues you an engraved invitation “that I may join with him.”

There you go – a bridge to the miracle in one holy instant! By viewing this situation through the eyes of the Divine, then you get to make a choice to have your very own miracle! Which in and of itself is a miracle wouldn’t you say? By choosing to see the Good, the God, the Divine, the Holiness in that person’s heart, or situation, YOU get the GRAND PRIZE! The Gift!! The Miracle! You get to reclaim your divinity AND join with another in theirs! Does it really get any better than that?

In summary we have broken down this quote: “Let me behold my savior in this one You have appointed as the one for me to ask to lead me to the holy light in which he stands, that I may join with him” and now understand what a true gift it offers. Instead of seeing a conflict with another person, I can choose to see that I have an opportunity to see the Go[o]d in this person, which allows me to join with him and realize that we really are at one with each other because of the Go[o]d within each of us. And suddenly, I am no longer separated from my good, and neither is he. A win-win if ever there is one!

At the end of the day, the best way to bring the good into your life, is to unclench your fists, change your mind and allow your heart to open. All we have to do is recognize that every experience is an opportunity for our greater good, as long as we make the choice to see it that way.
