Age 8!

WHAT’S NEXT – PUTTING YOUR NEWBORN ON ANTI-DEPRESSANTS BECAUSE IT DOESN’T SMILE ENOUGH??

But before we go into that, let me remind you of the simple facts about cholesterol…

DON’T ACCUSE CHOLESTEROL OF A CRIME IT DIDN’T COMMIT!

Back in April, I posted an article that dispelled the myths surrounding cholesterol, so allow me to reiterate a few things: in Ayurveda, there is no “bad” and “good” cholesterol – it’s all good. High cholesterol is the informant, a warning sign, that something else is not right in your body – it’s not the criminal. Don’t blame the cholesterol!

Use of cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins, also known as Lipitor – Pfizer; Pravachol – Bristol Myers Squibb; and Lescol – Novartis) rose by 156% (from 15.8 million people to 29.7 million people) between 2000 and 2005. Spending on these drugs catapulted from $7.7 billion to $19.7 billion, and prescriptions rose from about 90 million to nearly 174 million during that same time period.

In 2004, the U.S. government’s National Cholesterol Education Program

advised those at risk for heart disease to reduce their LDL (“bad”) cholesterol to the ridiculously low levels of less than 100 (or even 70). If you want to meet these dangerously low targets, you would generally have to take multiple statins in combination.

Big business shouldn’t dictate how we treat ourselves or especially our children, and statins are not the solution to the “problem” with cholesterol. Don’t just take my word for it. Dr. Joseph Mercola, D.O., (www.mercola.com) has spoken out against the use of statins for children.

“I do not find it particularly heartening that these drugs are as safe for children as they are for adults, considering that they are highly dangerous for adults to begin with,” Dr. Mercola notes in his article “Now They Want to Treat Kids with Statins.”

Dr. Mercola also lists some of the known dangers of statins (“Crestor and Other Statins: Are They Really Worth the Risk?”) including: “potential increase in liver enzymes…muscle aches, weakness, immune system suppression, an increase in cancer risk, and a serious degenerative muscle tissue condition called rhabdomyolysis.”

OUR CHILDREN DESERVE BETTER!

Hugs (and Ayurveda) Not Drugs: Treat childhood weight and obesity disorders the SAFE and NON-TOXIC way…

Choose the RIGHT Labels: Vata, Pitta, or Kapha – NOT “Fat” or “Lazy”…

May The Force (of Ayurveda) Be With YouCHILDHOOD OBESITY CAN BE MANAGED AND CURED THROUGH AYURVEDA

There are three main types of digestive imbalances and tendencies according to the child’s body type:

1. “Visnagni” – characterized by irregular appetite, overstimulated stomach and intestines. A child with a “nervous stomach” will have problems with indigestion, nausea, stomach pains and may want to eat at odd times. Johnny or Susie’s tummy aches and refusal to eat for hours at a time can be an indicator of a Visnagni digestive body type. So can their emotional stress, fear, anxiety and sleeplessness. In severe cases, they may even have dark rings around their eyes. Not the recipe for a happy, balanced child!

2. “Tiksnagni” – or an “acid stomach.” If Johnny or Susie gets cranky when they’re not fed on time, or if they exhibit hot, red skin, there’s nothing irregular about this child’s digestive fire. Rather, they could be agitated because the acidic stomach overcooks the food, causing a lack of nutrients being absorbed. The key to this type is regular feedings: same time every day.

3. “Mandagni” – indicated by a heavy, slow and clogged up digestive system. Too much stomach mucus causes undigested foods to clog the fat channels and all other tissues. Johnny or Susie is lethargic, always hungry, and susceptible to colds and mucus problems. With their un-metabolized food toxins clogging their body channels, they gain weight easily and lose it slowly.

Each one of these digestive disorders can lead the way to childhood obesity, and by identifying which category your child is part of, you are taking the first step towards creating a wellness weight loss program for your unique little one. copyright Dr.Helen M Thomas 2008-2012

Dr. Helen Thomas invites you to add Ayurveda to your wellness knowledge base . Mr. Vikal was inaugurating the seminar on ‘Respect, protect and promote Ayurveda for healthy living’ at Constitution Club in New Delhi on the occasion of Dhanwantri Jayanti.

Mr. Vikal said,”Ayurveda is the oldest medical system in the world. Its recorded origin goes back about 5000 years to the Vedic civilization of India. It’s one of the three great Vedic life sciences, the other two being Yoga and Tantra, each having a different main perspective on human life.

References to Ayurveda are found in the Atharva Veda, the fourth veda, which deals with herbs, healing and mantras to cure illness and prevention of diseases. Ayurveda has now become fashionable in the West. Film stars, politicians, new age seekers from California to Moscow seek information about Ayurveda.

Ayurveda places great emphasis on maintenance of health of healthy people through diets, life style regulations and herbal food supplements. Mr. Vikal said Indian Ayurveda is getting popular in USA and other parts of the world because Ayurveda therapy is comparatively safe and affordable for almost all patients of different income group. ‘Ayurvedic medicines have no side or after effects,’ said Mr. Vikal.

The seminar was organized by Vaidya Kirpa Ram Health Foundation (Regd). While presiding over the seminar

, founder of Vaidya Kirpa Ram Health Foundation, Ayurvedacharya Dr. Harish Kumar Verma said JAMA article published on 15th December 2004 has caused confusion among consumers. He said Drs Saper, Eisenberg, Phillips, and Davis of Osher Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, tested Ayurvedic medicines on the parameter of food supplements. There is a difference between testing parameter of food supplements and medicines. Moreover they never tested the toxicity of these products, which are mentioned in the said article.

Dr Verma said various compounds of Arsenic, Mercury and Lead are used in manufacturing of few prescription based Ayurvedic medicines, which are used for serious disorders like Leukaemia, Multiple Seclerosis or Cancer etc. But these heavy metals are not used in free form, rather these heavy metals are converted into safe compounds after centuries old professional processing, which is duly approved by the Indian Regulatory Authorities, before their usage in Ayurvedic medicines.

Dr. Verma said lot of poisonous substances are used in manufacturing of Allopathic drugs, that does not mean that public should be scared about those medicines. People should know the difference between food supplements and medicines.

While addressing the seminar Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Principal of DAV Ayurvedic College Jallandhar said that it is unfortunate that AYUSH Deptt. of Govt of India could not effectively counter this disinformation about presence of heavy metals in Ayurvedic Medicines. He said JAMA should withdraw this article from its website because users of Ayurvedic medicines are getting scared by this disinformation.

Dr .V K Tripathi of Sanat Products Limited said JAMA article is spreading disinformation about Ayurvedic medicines. He said when America issued a patent on Arsenic Trioxide for Leukaemia, then the same scientists of Boston university never talked about toxicity of Arsenic for human consumption. When compounds of Arsenic are used in Ayurvedic medicines then American scientists of Boston University are publishing disinformation about Ayurveda and scaring the public by saying Ayurvedic medicines may be toxic due to presence of Arsenic in these medicines. This is a professional discrimination, said Dr. Tripathi.

On this occasion American Pediatric Gastroentrologist Dr Shivinder Narwal was honoured by Sh Ram Chander Vikal for promoting Ayurveda in USA. The president of foundation said that its organization will organise similar seminars in 500 districts of India to counter JAMA disinformation about Ayurvedic medicines.

By: Dr Raspal Kaur A 138 Madhuban,

Delhi-110092

email: sushruta@bol.net.in

Dr Raspal Kaur BAMS Doctor Delhi

Related posts:

Ayurveda Holidays in India

Ayurveda Natural Care

Ayurveda India

The Role of Ayurveda Vata in Medicine

Ayurveda Vata

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Treatment

Health

Medicine

Ayurveda Vata is considered the most important and significant among all three doshas in Indian Ayurveda medicine practice. It is said the Ayurveda Kapha and Ayurveda Pitta could render useless and helpless without Vata. All three doshas are considered essential and necessary for health, life, and body functions. Old Indian medicine practitioners assert that the Kapha and the Pitta would be lame without the dosha of Vata. Thus, it is important to know more and understand the nature and coverage of this one. To understand Ayurveda knowledge would be to understand the mystical Indian approach to medicine and healing.

The body is made up of different channels. These function like routes of doshas, somehow like energy flow. These channels include the blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves, and others. When the doshas are vitiated, the activities of the channels are manifested and the ideal body function is performed. This is the main knowledge of Ayurveda practitioners. They skilfully and expertly know the body channels and organs as well as the corresponding doshas that govern such. Such medicine practitioners should be discerning enough to skilfully and accurately tell right versus inadequate performance of channels and the corresponding doshas.

Ayurveda dosha is particularly found in areas like the urinary bladder, pelvic region, bones, ear, intestine, and thighs. As such, the main activities and functions of Ayurveda Vata are defined. This dosha is deemed responsible for breathing, energy generation, and ability to move or exert movements. These organs and

channels are very important in keeping overall health and fitness of the body at ideal state. The Ayurveda practitioners know how to properly use and evoke Vata to prompt and bring about proper body maintenance, voluntary and involuntary movements, and energy generation. This dosha is responsible for maintaining energy and movement.

People who have Ayurveda Vata dominant personality are observed to have specific characteristics. First, they are expressive in muscles and bones. Usually thin and lanky, people under Vata personality are known to have prominent bones and are lean. They tend to easily lose and gain weight. In general, they love cool temperature and they are commonly having dry skin. Their muscles are visible but are not as bulky as the Kaphas. They could move swifter and more gracefully than others. They have strength but moreover, they got more than just it, making them more effective and more reliable.

Vata people are reflections of their own experiences and others’ treatment of them. In this way, they are considered as hall of mirrors. They are not usually following routines. Their mental power could be overpowered easily by emotions. Their ability to think and infer is rapid, but they could be at the same time emotionally anxious. Their life could be considered ‘lives of parties.’

As mentioned, dryness could be associated and identified with the Vata people. This feature could be attributed the functions and combinations of biochemicals in the body. Ayurveda Vata is also identified with other distinct features. It could refer to coldness or coolness, dryness, and mobility. Some Ayurvedic practitioners instantly link Vata with roughness, clearness and non-sliminess. The dosha is also practically referring to lightness, which could bring about and facilitate freer and faster movement of the body. Vata is important in making sure the body’s condition would be ideal for working and for travelling.

Discover more beneficial Ayurvedic Treatments and Medicines by visiting the blog at http://Ayurvedic-Treatment.com where you will find regularly updated posts, all dedicated to this very subject.

Related posts:

What is Ayurveda Dosha?

Principals of Ayurveda

Beauty Life With Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Therapies

Ayurvedic Therapy

Alternative Medicine

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic

Yoga

Ayurveda employs a wide range of therapies. They are used to get rid of deep-seated toxins as part of illness prevention and internal cleansing programs. Reduction therapy is called ‘discontenting’ (asantarpana) because it includes practices of discipline, hard living and giving things up. It makes us doubt ourselves and question who we are and what we are doing. It stimulates us to change and give up bad habits.

Tonification methods nourish deficiencies in the body and work at building up inadequate energy or lack of substance in the body that may bring illness about. It is indicated in convalescence, or after reduction methods have been used. Tonification therapy is called “gladdening” (santarpana) because it consists of methods to give us greater nourishment, care, relaxation, ease and enjoyment. It aims to make us feel better about ourselves and encourages faith, love and positive attitudes.

The usual rule is first to reduce and then to tonify. If we tonify first, we may feed toxins or excess doshas into the body and make matters worse.

Top Quality Herbal Supplements and Remedies are availiable from www.Ayurveda-Yoga.co.uk

Reduce or tonify?

Reduction is indicated primarily for Kapha constitutions, while tonification is for Vata. This is because the main attribute of Kapha is heaviness, while that of Vata is lightness. These are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. We will talk about each one in turn.

Vata: We are all made up of space and air, with some light, water, and earth thrown in. Vata transmits perceptions to the mind and body and maintains the body’s na

tural balance. If this energy which is used to transmit so much of the outside world to our inner selves becomes imbalanced, disease sets in.

Pitta: This is the energy responsible for vision, digestion, heat, hunger and thirst, happiness and intelligence. When this element is out of alignment, it results in depression, weight gain or loss, dehydration, apathy, and digestive problems.

Kapha disease is the result of lack of conserving and stabilizing the body, we commonly call them viruses or “bugs.”

All disease is called Vyaadhi. The word “Ayurveda” is an amalgam of the word ayus meaning “life” and the word veda, which refers to a method of “knowledge”. Therefore “Ayurveda” more or less translates as the “knowledge of life”.

Ayurveda is a system that helps maintain wellbeing in a person by using the intrinsic principles of nature. In essence Ayurveda has been in existence since the beginning of time as we have always been governed by nature’s laws.

Many Ayurvedic methods were handed down by word of mouth and were used before there were written records. Two ancient books, more than 2,000 years old, are thought to be the first texts on Ayurveda–Caraka Samhita and Susruta Samhita.

Ayurvedic Elements

Ayurveda believes that every human being is a made up of five primary elements. These five primary elements combine and create various physiological functions in the human body.

Ether or Space

Air

Water

Fire

Earth

These elements combine to form three doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Ayurveda believes humans are all made up of unique proportions of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These ratios of the doshas vary in each individual. Each person has one predominant dosha in their constitution.

An imbalance in the doshas is the cause of any disease. Imbalances may be caused by an unhealthy diet, too much or too little mental and physical work, or from the weather, chemica

ls, or germs.

Doshas

Vata dosha.

Ether and air combine to form what is known as the Vata dosha. Vata administers to the principle of movement and is considered the most powerful of all doshas. It controls the very basic body developments such as cell division, heart, respiration, and the mind. Vata can be out of balance by, staying up late at night, or eating before the previous meal is digested. People with vata as their main dosha are thought to be particularly prone to skin, neurological, and mental diseases.

Pitta dosha.

Fire and water combine to form the Pitta dosha. Pitta controls the hormones and digestive system. When pitta is out of balance, a person experiences harmful emotions and has physical symptoms such as heartburn. Pitta is upset by, eating spicy or sour food; being angry, tired, or fearful, or spending too much time in the sun. For instance, the market for ayurvedic drugs is growing in the US with more and more Americans trying to ‘‘return to nature’’. According to recent research, about 18 million Americans practice yoga, making yoga- and its affiliated products and services an industry in itself in the USA. The market features the obvious, like mats, props, clothes, CD’s, videotapes, books, and DVD’s. It also features the not-so-obvious eye pillows, plastic toe-spreaders, and scented mat spray. Speak gently and try not to get annoyed, speaking loudly and rapidly can significantly raise your blood pressure during conversation. In addition, chronic anger produces elevation in blood pressure and it can be a serious risk factor for coronary – heart – disease. So be cool, speak softly and even in event of extreme displeasure. As we have long known, Ayurveda says that laughter is the best medicine and is as good as relaxation therapy, exercise or other methods used to overcome stress. Study shows that laughter decreases adrenaline and cortisol produc

tion. Laughter can help you if you are having high blood pressure. If you are frustrated, unhappy, angry, just laugh and find yourself away from rage–it is of the effective medicine and it is free.

Finally, for complete tranquility of mind, meditate. Concentrate on the incoming and outgoing breath, focusing on the temperature of the breath as it flows in and out. You may notice the exhaled air is slightly warmer than the inhaled air. If you focus the mind on the breath for 10 minutes, mental disturbance gets diminished and blood pressure normalizes. Many will find that by implementing these simple changes, medication is not necessary at all.

Kurt nimmo is a health specialist and exercise guru.
