Mr. Bonds must be one miserable human being. I guess it’s true that no one likes a spoiled brat. This most recent episode concerning Mr. Bonds is nothing more than a case of what goes around comes around.

In case you haven’t heard, Barry Bonds broke a long-standing baseball home run record. The gentleman who caught the record-breaking ball sold it, and the eventual buyer is looking to donate the ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame. But, he has imprinted an asterisk on the ball itself reflecting the general opinion of Bonds and this hallowed piece of memorabilia, irrespective of the known facts of Mr. Bonds and his unproven use of steroids. Mr. Bonds has replied by stating that he would refuse to enter the Hall of Fame if the Hall accepted and displayed this ball.

Sounds like a win-win situation to me. What’s the problem? Fans get to have their opinion of Barry Bonds perfectly symbolized forever in the Baseball Hall of Fame, AND we’ll never have to hear anymore self-serving nonsense from that whiny brat Barry Bonds again? That just seems too good to be true.

I have to say that I still don’t hate Mr. Bonds. I still feel sorry for him above everything else. I feel sorry for him because this should be the happiest moment in his life. He has eclipsed a great record, yet it will always have at least a figurative asterisk. He is set to retire and ride off into the sunset, yet he may have to answer federal charges soon. He really has no reason to smile. When it is all said and done, Barry Bonds is not likely to have m

any fond memories to look back on either. He’ll have no championships, a tainted record, and hatred from the vast majority of baseball fans. Nothing could better symbolize this hatred than the home run ball with the asterisk.

There is a bigger issue though. Does the Hall of Fame belong to the players, or does it belong to the fans? Should Bonds get his way in this argument, I wouldn’t really be surprised. However, if that were the case, then it would appear that the Hall of Fame does not belong to fans. Obviously, I would be greatly disappointed by this choice. Like most fans though, I would probably make plans to come to Cooperstown to see the asterisk ball. Whereas, I am not likely to set foot in the place if Barry Bonds is there. Call it a boycott if you want. Simple economics dictates that the Hall belongs to the fan. As a consumer, I must demand that this ball be made part of the Hall of Fame. I’m sure most fans agree. The asterisk ball will generate business for the Hall. Barry Bonds won’t generate anything other than animosity.

As a player, if you disagree and feel the Hall is yours, then you are no better than Barry Bonds. That attitude, not steroids, is why fans have a problem with Bonds. Barry Bonds owes us. We made him great. Without us fans, Barry Bonds would be just another flabby office worker who hits cleanup for his church league softball team. His desire to remove himself from the Hall of Fame is a good first step in paying back baseball fans. There was something unnerving about the whole home run record to me as a baseball fan. It felt like Karma messed up somewhere in a big way. Barry Bonds being in the Hall of Fame is meaningless to me, and the reason is because my devotion as a fan seems meaningless to him. Barry Bonds will never be more than a footnote, an asterisk if you will, in baseball history. This asterisk, in my opinion, has nothing to do with steroids. It’s there because the admiration I may have once felt was never reciprocated with simple gratitude. But, Barry’s decision to boycott the Hall would be the best thing he could ever do for me as a fan. It would be the final good-bye, and a positive thing I could use to remember him. With luck, I’ll never have to hear from him again.

And if Barry Bonds should change his mind and enter the Hall along side the asterisk ball, would anyone really be surprised?

Kevin Francis is an author and sports fan.

I want to keep you updated with the Barrie Real Estate Market. There have been many negative stories recently about how the market is “slipping” or that “prices are starting to fall”. I thought I would take a look at some facts about the numbers in the Barrie Real Estate area, because it isn’t doom and gloom, the press likely won’t report this. After all, bad news sells newspapers and good news, well it’s nice to have, however, it’s typically not headline grabbing. After reviewing the latest sales figures for the Barrie Real Estate Board rumours that suggest the market is in a free fall are just simply not correct. Is it possible we are heading into a slower period, sure, but as for a collapse as the press would you have you believe, it’s very unlikely.

The (# Sales) numbers are definitely down from this time last year (which was ridiculously hot), with the exception of a few of the outlying rural areas, the numbers are still tilted slightly in favour of the sellers.

If we examine detached 2 story city of Barrie homes sold between the months of January 1st and August 31st 2009 we find that there were 818 sales. The comparable numbers for the same period in 2010 = 761 Barrie homes sales. That’s a drop of just 7% approx. When we examine the same time period looking at detached bungalows we find that there were 502 sales in 2009 and 517 sales in 2010, a slight increase, hardly a disaster.

So you might ask, what about the price? Maybe homes are being discounted to increase the sales nu

mbers! So let’s compare 1st Jan 2009 to 31st Aug 2009 with the same period in 2010 for both 2 story homes and bungalows. This is the average sales price for the city of Barrie homes.

2009 2 story: List price $290,546, sales price $283,093: days on market = 49

2010 2 story: List price $310,296, sales price $302,742: days on market = 42

And the same for Bungalows in the City of Barrie home market.

2009 Bungalows: List price $267,634, sales price $260,283: Days on Market = 53

2010 Bungalows: List price $281,299, sales price $274,771: Days on Market = 44

Forgive me if I am misreading these numbers but when prices rise and the number of days on the market falls, typically this means we have a sellers market. Could this change? Absolutely, and if we examine the last few months of data we will find that the slow down has been more marked recently, hence, it’s likely that the rest of the year in the Barrie Real Estate market will be more ‘normal’. Could prices slip? They could, but they could also stay pretty steady. Interest rates have come down dramatically in the past few weeks and this will likely have a stabilizing effect on the market. Bottom line, don’t believe everything you read on the front page of the paper. Has the market slowed down? yes sure it has but it looks a long way from a collapse. Coming off a very nice warm Canadian summer where it seems everyone was more interested in their tan than the Barrie real estate market its not surprising that the market took a breather. I expect a cooler but stable market heading into the winter months.

If you would like to know exactly what is happening in your neighbourhood give me a call and I’ll be happy to discuss specifically your Barrie Home.

Sincerely, Ian Hocking 705 791 4837

The Hocking Homes team is not just about the next real estate transaction.

Last night, my best friend from 9th grade showed me letters that we had written to you 29 years ago. As young, innocent girls we had sat with pencil and paper and poured our hearts out onto wide-ruled lined paper and asked for you to be “our buddy”. We were two sweet girls who met in 1979 while walking home from school. It wasn’t too long after we met that we discovered we were both crazy about you. At that time, being a Barry Manilow fan wasn’t as cool as it is now. Most of our peers were into Led Zepplin, The Doors, or The Boss and when we talked about Barry Manilow it wasn’t very popular. Fortunately, we were adorable, so people forgave us for being Fanilows. We went to see you, Barry, on two occasions–at the Greek Theater and at the Hollywood Bowl–and we joined the BMIFC (Barry Manilow International Fan Club).

When we met last night it was to attend the Ultimate Manilow Benefit Concert at the Hollywood Bowl. It was an event to raise money for the Los Angeles Unified School District to help keep music in the schools. Honestly, we would have gone if it was to keep Botox in Beauty Queens–we were going to see Barry, and each other. My friend and I had the chance to meet after not having seen one another for over 20 years. We never had a falling out, what happened with us was very common–we drifted our separate ways. We slowly drifted apart from one another and toward other people and other lives. When we found one another on Facebook, it was such a blessing to me to see her beautiful face and to b

e able comment on the pictures of her adorable family. I really didn’t think it would go further than that.

Then one day while “facebook-stalking” half the class of 1983, I saw an add for the concert to see YOU–Barry Manilow! I knew immediately that I wanted to go and I wanted to go with my friend who had shared that love for you so long ago. I posted a note on her Facebook wall and asked her if she would want to go.

Now, for most people this wouldn’t be a big deal. For me, this was huge. Almost immediately after I posted it I was scared beyond belief. For some reason, over the years I have been developing and at the same time fighting against a feeling of social awkwardness. Being in certain social situations makes me a little uncomfortable–ironically, if I am holding a microphone I am completely at ease. I probably need psychotherapy, but, seriously, I already can’t afford to get dental work, which I need worse, so I’ll have to settle for being a little weird.

After she accepted and the details began to unfold and the date was crawling closer on the calendar, I would start to feel a little nauseous at the prospect of what it might be like. All of the “what if’s ” would begin to cloud my mind. The morning of the concert I couldn’t even feel excitement because I was so nervous that it would be awkward. I was trying on different outfits when my son’s sweet girlfriend said to me, “Is it ever as awkward as you think it is going to be?” I didn’t answer her, I just pretended that I wasn’t listening. I simply went along with my preparations and attended to the voices in my head.

Driving to the restaurant, listening to your songs, Barry, relaxed me and I gently kept reminding myself that like the predictability of your songs this would be a predicable story and like most predictable stories this one would have a happy ending where there was no feeling of isolation–but one of acceptance and joy.

Little did I ever think it would go beyond my expectations. She was always special and unique as a girl, but as a woman, she is even more amazing. I am just as much in awe of her today as I was when I first met her 30 years ago. The fact that I ever allowed this young woman to drift away is enough evidence to prove the case that I was an idiot as a teenager. She is unlike so many people in the world today. She is sensitive and artistic and confident beyond her years. I cannot believe that she was wise enough to save letters that we had written so long ago. The words that we wrote to you were so sincere and it is such a blessing to see how much you meant to us. We had so much faith in the world and in ourselves. We were so brave in our belief that if we wrote to you asked to be your friend, that naturally, you would consider us “a buddy”.

We met for dinner and then drove together to the Bowl for the concert and while it was only a mile and a half and we had a GPS–we managed to get lost and had to turn around a couple times and then landed in the wrong parking lot. The attendant must have recognized us as your “buddies” though because he broke traffic laws and allowed us to drive the wrong way in the middle of traffic to get to the correct parking lot. The men at the gate let us park at the front door and as we jumped out of the car we could hear you were already singing. That voice! That very familiar voice was calling out to us! We ran up the hill and around the Bowl to get in. It was an amazing moment. We were running along the walkway, looking at you on the stage, singing along as you belted out “Even Now” and we were holding hands. The wind was blowing in my face and I had tears in my eyes. I felt 15 all over again. I felt time go backwards and your words were all fresh! Each lyric that I have sung a million times was new in that moment. Holding her hand and running along backwards in time to a place where neither of us had been to a mortuary to bury a parent or pick out a coffin for our child. We were running back to a time before divorce and disappointment. Before loss had taught us the true meaning of all those songs we had sung in our innocence. We had no idea of the heartache that life was going to show us and the individual pain that we would face. We ran back to a time when we didn’t know the depth of the meaning to the words we knew so well. And it was beautiful. We sang every song and we hugged one another the entire concert. I felt myself holding onto to her as if it would change the course of the past. Maybe, if I held on tight enough I could stop the drifting apart that happened so long ago. Maybe I could alter the past with out destroying the beauty of the present. Isn’t that possible?

But, sadly, eventually, Barry, you sang your last song. The lights came up and the orchestra filed off the stage. 1980 was gone. We said our goodbyes and confirmed plans for a lunch in a couple weeks. But, next time it will be without you, sweet Barry Manilow, and we will have to move through the emotions on our own.

It’s been a long time since we first wrote to you and made that “friend request” and so much has changed in that time. />Anxiety is an emotion common to everybody. Whether it’s prior to delivering an important speech or sitting for a crucial exam, we have all experienced anxiety at some point in our lives. But when the thought of something mundane like an airplane flight or a simple drive in your car can send you over the edge, then you have a problem. Dizzy spells, a racing heart, shortness of breath and a feeling that you may not make it through the situation are all symptoms of a rather serious anxiety attack.

In the past doctors have tried various methods of curbing these symptoms but have been unsuccessful in eliminating them completely. Fortunately there is now hope with a revolutionary new technique developed by anxiety expert Joe Barry.

Joe, a sufferer of panic attacks himself, has devised a new technique guaranteed to cure panic and anxiety attacks permanently. If you think this is just another way of using the usual outdated cliches — “deep breathing” and “positive affirmations”, think again. Called the One Move Technique, this new method aims to eliminate any such attacks in only one move and it has already cured thousands of people in over 30 countries. According to Joe Barry the key factor that separates those who fully eliminate panic attacks in their lives from those who do not is something very simple. It is not medication, lifestyle changes or relaxation exercises. It is simply when the individual no longer fears the thought of having a panic attack.

Mr Barry explains his theory in this manner. After a person suffers a panic attack, the experience can have such an impact that it actually leaves an imprint on the individuals psyche. This imprint leads to a ‘loop of anxiety’ where the sufferer finds himself in continuous fear of having another panic attack. Such repetitive cycles of anxiety can last for months or even years and is why conventional techniques have failed thus far. Joe Barry’s “Panic Away Program” teaches you a new technique to break away from this cycle and return to everyday living. The fact is, panic attacks cannot harm you, and although the sensations may seem terrifying, they are nothing more than an overreaction by your body. It is this fear of harm that actually pushes you over the edge. So if you can overcome the fear, then you can overcome the attacks. Sounds simple right?

Joe Barry says his program can cure you no matter how long you have been suffering from panic or anxiety attacks. In addition to this he also offers private one-to-one coaching to tackle any individual problems that you may be experiencing. Imagine being able to plan your vacation without anxiety, never fear the thought of leaving your home and finally be able to get close to another person without any barriers. So why worry any longer? Fight your anxiety and see what Joe’s method has to offer. You owe it to yourself to start enjoying life!

Estevan Mark

Author Bio
Estevan Mark was a sufferer frequent panic attacks, which crippled his social life. One day,he discovered the One Move Technique.Today,he’s a much sought-after conference speaker in business circuits.

No related posts.

The History of The Flash Comic Books

Barry Long

Arts and entertainment

History of the flash comic books
<guid

By: Gavin Roberts

The Flash is one of Americas most loved superhero comic books stars. He posses super human powers of lightening speed and instant reflexes. Every Flash has been a member of the Justice Society of America or the Justine League.

The Flash is not just one superhero but is the name of several superheroes of if you like a superhero that has been developed in several incarnations.

Flash number one was Jay Garrick created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert in 1940. Barry Allen was Flash number two and reigned from 1956 to 1986. Of all the Flashes Barry Allen has remained one of the most popular in all time.Wally West was Flash number three, right up until 2006 until Bart Allen became the most recent Flash today.

The long life of Flash comic books may be divided up into four eras. These are the Golden age, the silver age, a flash of two worlds and now the modern age.

The Flash of the golden age and the very first Flash Comic book appeared in January 1940. Jay Garrick became the first superhero that posed only one super human trait. His faster than light speed was the result of inhaling hard water vapors.

Jay Garrick is a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Certainly he was phenomenally popular with readers for many years. Unfortunately the popularity of all comic books suffered with a post war decline. Eventually in 1949 the last issue of Flash Comics was run, issue 104.

The silver age of Flash began in 1956 with a revival of Americas favorite superheroes. DC?s successful revival was due to the fact that they did not simply re-release dated old characters as other comic book publishes had tried before them. DC comic books reinvented their characters for the modern age. Flash was the first of the revivals in the silver age and appeared in a series of comic books simply called ?showcase?

New Flash was Barry Allen, who was not a college student but a police scientist who haplessly gained his superpowers if lightning speed after a freak chemical accidental bathing. Certainly old Flash was not ignored it was featured that Barry Allen selected his superhero after reading about the Jay Garrick in a comic book.

Barry Allen was soon to appear in his own Flash comic book series that began as issue number 105 rights where there first Flash comic left off.

Later came ?Flash of two worlds? with an interesting twist revealing that both Jay Garrick and Barry Allen co existed on parallel worlds. Their powers allowed that they would meet and become friends. Thus two worlds, the golden age and the silver age together.

In an incredible unimagined twist in the 1980s, Barry Allen was given a heroic death. Yes! A superhero died. Thankfully due to the ability of comic books to bring their own super feats and some exciting time travel Barry Allen was able to make appearances from time to time after his death.

Finally the modern age began. It is interesting to note that Wally West was introduced in earlier Flash comics as Kid Flash, Barry Allen?s nephew, who through the same devices as his uncle, developed the flash powers. On his uncle’s death he adopted the name Flash for himself. The Flash volume 2 was born.

The Flash Volume 2, although was canceled, number 230 in January 2006. This was not the end. In true comic book style, a new series emerged ?The Flash: The Fastest man Alive? began in June of the same year but only ran for 13 issues.

O what an intricate world is this of superheroes and lash comics. Flash Volume 2 was revived in its place and continued at issue 231. A series called ?All Flash? was written to act as a bridge between the two series. This enabled Flash Volume 2 #231 to become ?Flash: The Fastest man Alive? issue number 15.

Certainly Flash comic books are interesting but the development and careful planning of the Flash chain series is a whole point of fascination on its own.

Gavin Roberts

Author Bio
Gavin Roberts has grown up with comic books and has compiled a massive comic book collection. He has also created an Online Comic Book Store that showcases thousands of constantly updated comic books.

The majority of what we have come to know about Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan in which it is to be found, has been gathered from the observation of old properties in the area. However, many of these are in a very bad state and have been for a very long time. There are also legendary tales like the one about Joseph of Arimathea, who traded tin across the channel in Glastonbury and was one of the first missionaries to the country.

It is a widely-held traditional belief that the father of Caractacus took him to Rome where they both converted to Christianity. They later returned to the Vale of Glamorgan with the missionary Bran The Blessed. It is also well-known that Christianity had gained much popular belief in the Vale by the early fourth century and that several bishops on the Council of Rome were from the area.

One of the oldest shrines in the vicinity is St. Baruch’s Church on Barry Island, but it is also in very poor condition. Barry Island was one of the most important monastic retreats of the period in south Wales. Steep and Flat Holm islands in the Bristol Channel were also highly significant in this regard. Another very important part of the puzzle was St. Illtyd’s Seminary in Llantwit Major which had 2,200 students.

Porthkerry Point jutted out into the sea almost certainly further out than it is today and a castle was constructed there on the site of an ancient Roman fortress and naval dockyard. Many deer and wolf bones have been found between Barry and Sully, indicating the presence of these animals in great numbers.

Arrowheads, flints, bone needles and coins have also been found.

Barry Island was first known as Baruchs Island after St. Baruch, who was found drowned, washed up on the beach in 700 AD. He had drowned on his return from Flat Holm, where it was customary for Saints and religious students of the seminaries to spend Lent.

He and Gwelches were both students of St. Cadoc and when they had got back from Flat Holm, they realized that they had left their enchiridion (religious manual) behind. St. Cadoc made them go back for it. Neither monk returned from the trip alive.St. Illtyd, St. Baruch’s most famous disciple was educated there too.

The island at Barry has had several names including “Island of the Saints” and “Insular of Peiros”. St. Peiro was St. Illtyd’s successor as leader of the seminary and St. Samson’s mentor. St. Doeninas was the leader of another abbey on the island at nearby Friars’ Point.

OwenJones

Author Bio
If you would like to know more about the history of Wales, visit our website at http://welsh-products-online.co.uk

No related posts.

Barry Manilow Concert Details

Barry Long

Arts and entertainment

Barry manilow

Barry manilow concert ticket

Barry manilow ticket

Barry manilow tickets
<guid

Singer and piano player Barry Manilow was one of the biggest pop music hitmakers of the 1970s. Early in his career he was a jingle writer and singer, writing the theme for state farm insurance and he worked has a pianist, producer and arranger, his major solo hits include Mandy, Copacabana. He wrote hundreds of songs and won Grammy, Emmy and Tony awards and an Oscar nomination along the way. He signed with bell records and released his debut solo album.

Barry Manilow has long been a supporter of charitable and humanitarian efforts around the world, in addition to his foundations, the manilow funds for health and hope, his altruistic involvement includes the prince’s trust, united way, starlight foundation and many more. <br

It’s true that Manilow’s taste for swelling choruses and lush arrangements often bordered on bombastic, but unlike many of his MOR peers, Manilow wasn’t aiming to make smooth, restrained background music — he conceived of himself as a pop entertainer and all-around showman in the classic mold, and his performances and stage shows were accordingly theatrical.

Albums of Barry include: <br

By: Alex Demattia

The combination of Jerry Seinfeld’s comic talents and a large-scale CG animated movie about bees doesn’t on the surface appear to be a natural fit. After watching it, I realised that although there are some great moments stamped with Seinfeld’s humour which separate this movie from almost any other CG animated movie with an animal or insect in it, “Bee Movie” doesn’t really work as well as what it could have. A large part of this is in the interaction of the bees with humans. There are a few moments that are extremely funny, but as the story progresses, it just looks and feels more and more ridiculous, to the point where I found myself getting bored and wanting to switch it off (a singular feat considering this film is less than 90 minutes long!). On the plus side, this film has some great visuals and colour, particularly when the bees fly around New York, and there are some moments in the first half of the film that are very funny, but overall this is a bit of a misfire from Seinfeld. Oh well, I guess he deserves points for trying.

We’re introduced to the world of Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld) in a rapid series of scenes that open the film. Barry has just graduated and is about to go to work for the Honex Corporation, the only career path available to bees in making honey for the hive. Barry is disappointed to discover that he’ll only ever be doing one job for the rest of his life. Disillusioned, he manages to find his way over to the pollen jocks (bees who collect pollen from the outside world) and decides to hitch a ride with them for the experience. His eyes are opened to a world that he never knew existed. All of these scenes work very well in the cute CG animated movie kind of way where we see bees driving around in little cars, an entire industrial system in place to create the honey, and a bee’s point of view of New York City which looks glorious underneath.

Things take a turn when Barry gets separated from the pollen jocks, finds himself in the rain and then crash lands in to the apartment of Vanessa (Zellweger). Her boyfriend Ken (Patrick Warburton) wants to kill Barry but she saves his life and lets Barry fly away. Barry decides to go back in to thank her for saving his life, and in a hysterical scene, Barry verbally thanks Vanessa. The dialogue and performance in this scene are the best in the film, particularly from Renee Zellweger who is in complete quirky disbelief that she’s talking to a bee. Seinfeld does some of his best material here too, and you can tell some ad-libbing must have been going on.

The story moves along with Barry and Vanessa establishing a friendship, much to the disdain of his bee colony. But when Barry and Vanessa venture in to a supermarket and Barry sees honey on sale, he is outraged and decides to sue humans for stealing all their honey. This is where the film goes off the rails. You can probably see how this would be funny on paper, but realised visually and practically in this film, and the way it’s done leaves a lot to be desired. It starts off as a funny joke but then becomes sillier and sillier. I know it’s a movie, AND it’s a cartoon, but there was something inherently unbelievable about all the humans taking bees seriously in the first place without even getting to the point where they could take each other on in court. Aside from that flawed concept, the plot becomes very clunky in its delivery; the court rules in favour of Barry and as such all the honey gets returned to the bees. They stop working, and then all the flowers in the world start to die. This almost makes it a second film altogether as the story shifts focus yet again towards Barry saving the world by repolinating the last remaining flowers that exist. Again, looks good on paper but the delivery is very clunky, without much rhythm or flow for how one scene will lead in to the next. I found that once the court sequences were done that the movie almost felt finished from a pacing stand point, but then it picks up again and that’s where it started to drag. Or maybe it was the scene where the bees from Barry’s hive manage to carry a plane under their own power back to the airport to safely deliver the last flowers that finally did it for me.

There are a few positives at work. The visuals are absolutely stunning. The colours are so rich and vibrant that they literally fly off the screen and massage your eye balls. The images of New York are fabulous, as are the interior workings of the bee hive. Also, Seinfeld has collected a spectacular voice cast for this film in addition to himself; Renee Zellweger is very quirky and funny. John Goodman is funny as the over the top southern lawyer who represents the honey makers in court. Chris Rock is his usual self as an hilarious mosquito who is looking for blood. And then there’s celebrities playing themselves, like Larry King and Ray Liotta. Overall, a great cast and they all have some wonderful individual moments.

“Bee Movie” is a decent attempt to try something different, and although there are some great moments, overall, it just doesn’t work.

Alex Demattia

Author Bio
For the original DVD review, click this link: http://www.allaboutmovies.net/dvdreviewbeemovie.htm

Alex DeMattia is the lead DVD reviewer at the film/DVD review web site All About Movies.net – He is also an administrator of the web site http://www.approachingsexywomen.com

No related posts.
