She is an American author and anthropologist. She disappeared in 1998.

In her childhood she emigrated with her parents to Venezuela where she probably lived as a school-aged child. Her personality and background are very controversial. She sometimes claimed she was born in 1954 in Venezuela and that her parents were both either German or Swedish. Sometimes she called her mother Carolina Claussnitzer, but in an official document from the marriage with Carlos Castaneda in 1993 her mother’s name is Katarina Claussnitzer and her father’s name is spelled Rudolf rather than Rudolph.

She was nicknamed “Hummingbird” because of her ceaseless energy. She was said to have similar intelligence and charisma as her later husband Carlos Castaneda. Florinda tells in her books that she was an apprentice of Castaneda. She was also called one of “the witches” in Castaneda’s books. The type of shamanism that Castaneda and his followers practiced led the followers through a process known as recapitulation, which is a rehashing of one’s entire life’s memories. This process “rebirthed” the sorcerers by causing them to erase their personal history.

In 1982 Florinda Donner published a best selling book, ”[http://aquakeys.com/toltec/index.html#fd01 Shabono]” after the Yanomami word for shelter, with contradictory pseudo-anthropological stories

in which she claims to have lived among the Yanomami Indians in the Amazonas. Among critics the book is called “anthropologically inspired fiction”. She lived in Westwood Los Angeles and traveled often to her old hometown Caracas.

Adapted from the Wikipedia article Florinda Donner, under the G. N. U. Free Documentation License. The authenticity of the book, along with the rest of Castaneda’s series, has been a topic of debate since they were published.

In the book Castaneda continues his description of his apprenticeship under the tutelage of Don Juan, from which he had withdrawn in 1965. As in his previous book, ”The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge”, Castaneda describes the experiences he has with Don Juan while under the influence of the psychotropic plants that Don Juan offered him, peyote ”(Lophophora williamsii)” and a smokable mixture of what Castaneda believed to be, among other plants, dried mushroom of the genus ”Psilocybe”. The main focus of the book centered around Don Juan’s attempts at getting Carlos to ”See”, a practice best described as, in Castaneda’s own words, “perceiving energy directly as it flows through the universe”.

The book contains an introduction, an epilogue and two separate parts. Part One, “The Preliminaries of ‘Seeing’”, describes his re-initiation into the apprenticeship from which he withdrew in late 1965, and also describes his introduction to another ”brujo” (sorcerer

) named Don Genaro. Part Two, “The Task of ‘Seeing’”, elaborates on the mental processes involved with ”Seeing”, and begins with Castaneda realizing that the plants are a necessary tool to arrive at ”Seeing”.

Adapted from the Wikipedia article A Separate Reality, under the G. What is known is that she became one of his closest associates. The followers of Castaneda were encouraged to undergo the process of what he called “erasing personal history,” which often involved cutting all ties to their families and taking on new names. Amalia began going by the name of Talia Bey. When Castaneda started giving workshops on Tensegrity, Amalia became a workshop organizer. In 1995, when Castaneda founded Cleargreen Incorporated, Amalia, as Talia Bey, was made both a corporate director and president of the corporation. During a December 1995 interview for the Los Angeles Times, Castaneda was asked if he and Talia Bey were a couple, which provides some indication of how close the two of them had become.

Adapted from the Wikipedia article Amalia Marquez, under the G.
