Access Grid is a collection of resources and technologies that enables large format audio and video based collaboration between groups of people in different locations. The Access Grid is an ensemble of resources, including multimedia large-format displays, presentation and interactive environments, and interfaces with grid computing middleware and visualization environments. In simple terms, it is advanced videoconferencing using big displays and with multiple simultaneous camera feeds at each node (site). The technology was invented at Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago.

The “Alliance Chautauqua 99″, a series of two-day conferences on computational science organised by the NCSA, was the first large-scale Access Grid event. The Access Grid was later demonstrated at Supercomputing’99 in Portland to an international audience.

LTC Channon believes the Army can be the principal moral and ethical basis on which politics can harmonize in the name of the Earth. Since “Earthkind” has grown from pack to village, to tribe, to territory, and then to nation, LTC Channon envisions going from nation to planet next, and thereby declares the First Earth Battalion’s primary allegiance to the planet. Making the planet whole requires the ethical use of force based on the collective conscience. In his operations field manual titled ”Evolutionary Tactics”, LTC Channon lists some of the important missions of the Earth Battalion as:

* Urban pioneers

* Counter hostage force

* Disaster rescue

* Eco pioneers

* Animal rescue

The First Earth Battalion will organize itself informally: uniforms without uniformity, structure without status, and unity powered by diversity, since its members will be multicultural, with each race contributing to “rainbow power.” As a guiding principle, members of the First Earth Battalion seek nondestructive methods of conflict resolution because their first loyalty is to the planet.

The Warrior Monk Ethos=

Service members of the First Earth Battalion would practice meditation, yogic cat stretches and primal screams to attain battle-readiness, and use tui na or shiatsu as battlefield first aid. First Earth Battalion trainees would learn to fast for a week drinking only juice and then eat only nuts and grains for a month. They would be able to: fall in love with everyone, realize the different paths of spirit, perceive the auras of living organisms, attain the power to pass through objects such as walls (phasing), bend metal by using the power of the mind (i.e. psychokinesis), walk on fire, operate based on spirit communications (e.g. mediumship), become a peacemaker, actually change a violent pattern in the world (e.g. the Maharishi Effect), organize a tree plant with kids, calculate faster than a computer, control their heart rate—including making it stop—with no ill effects, intuit information from the past (retrocognition) or future (precognition), have out-of-body experiences, live off nature for twenty days, be 90%+ a vegetarian, and be able to intuit other people’s thoughts and feelings via telepathy LTC Channon coined the term “warrior monk” for these new service members of the First Earth Battalion, which is anyone who has the presence, service and dedication of a monk and the absolute skill and precision of a warrior. In “The Warrior Monk’s Vision,” Channon imagines an Army made up of awakened warriors. Channon’s ideal warrior monk would be proficient at every level of force. The warrior monk will learn different self-defense systems of martial arts (such as taiji, aikido, etc.), which are based on the notion of using the force of their attackers against themselves. To alleviate negative stressors and promote healing in self and others, the warrior monk will employ various affirmation, relaxation and visualization techniques, as well as a number of methods like yoga qigong and reiki to help strengthen and improve the mind/body connection with spirit.

The Credo

According to the book ”Mind Wars” by Ronald McRae, each member of the First Earth Battalion is sworn to uphold the credo of “high commandos and guerrilla gurus:”

*I have the capacity and therefore the duty to contribute to the development of myself, my associates, and our planet, simultaneously, now!

*I will organize a self-supporting high commando group that will create and perform evolutionary breakthrough actions on behalf of people and planet. One people, one planet.

*I will then pass on this concept to others who are capable of generating further self-organizing commando teams.

*I will await the time when my group can connect naturally with others at higher and higher levels of awareness and performance—the Natural Guard.

”SAMURAI”

One highly emphasized teaching of the First Earth Battalion is known as the ”New Age Synthesis for a Samurai:”

*Seek your own spiritual path of God.

*Actively improve your physical condition.

*Master mental self control for combat.

*Understand others.

*Reinforce team interdependence.

*Actively serve people and planet.

*Indulge in happiness and humor.

Laitman is widely regarded as an outstanding teacher, creative educator, and supportive mentor to students and faculty alike. He has been a leader in incorporating many state-of-the-art advances in imaging and visualization technology into the teaching of anatomy and fostering multidisciplinary approaches to teaching. Laitman and colleagues have also pioneered new approaches to introducing “team-work,” “team-responsibility” and “team-teaching,” that bring these essential components of physician development early into the medical school curriculum. He has been particularly successful in mentoring faculty, many of whom have won educational awards both from Mount Sinai and international societies. Laitman has created Teaching Assistant programs for advanced medical and graduate students that allow them to learn how to teach while gaining an even greater knowledge of anatomy. Deity yoga (Tibetan: ”lha’i rnal ‘byor”; Sanskrit: ”Devata-yoga”) is the fundamental Vajrayana practice, generally involving a sadhana practice in which the practitioner visualizes themselves as the meditation Buddha or yidam of the sadhana. The purpose of Deity yoga is to bring the meditator to the realization that the deity and the practitioner are in essence the same, non-dual. The yidam generally appears in a mandala and the practitioner visualizes themself and their environment as the yidam and mandala of their Deity Yoga practice. This visualization method undermines a habitual belief that views of reality and self are solid and fixed, enabling the practitioner to purify spiritual obscurations (Sanskrit: ”klesha”) and to practice compassion and wisdom simultaneously. Robert Beer describes the process:

Deity Yoga employs highly refined techniques of creative imagination, visualisation, and photism in order to self-identify with the divine form and qualities of a particular deity as the union of method or skilful means and wisdom. As His Holiness the Dalai Lama says, “In brief, the body of a Buddha is attained through meditating on it”.

Visualisation in deity yoga

Representations of the deity, such as a statues, paintings (Tibetan:”thangka”), or mandalas, are often employed as an aid to visualization in both the Generation Stage (Tibetan: ”Kye-rim”) and the Completion Stage (Tibetan: ”Dzog-rim”) of Anuttarayoga Tantra. The mandalas are symbolic representations of sacred enclosures, sacred architecture that house and contain the uncontainable essence of a yidam. In the book, ”The World of Tibetan Buddhism”, the Dalai Lama describes a mandala: “This is the celestial mansion, the pure residence of the deity.”

Mitchell received a BS (1981, Physics and Applied Mathematics), and an MS (1981, Mathematics) from Carnegie Mellon University, and Ph.D. (1986, Operations Research) from Stanford University (under advisorship of Christos Papadimitriou). He was with Hughes Research Laboratories (1981-86) and then on the faculty of Cornell University (1986-1991). He now serves as Professor of Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Research Professor of Computer Science at the Stony Brook University.

Mitchell has received various research awards (Gödel Prize, NSF Presidential Young Investigator, Fulbright Scholar, President’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities) and numerous teaching awards. His primary research area is computational geometry, applied to problems in computer graphics, visualization, air traffic management, manufacturing, and geographic information systems.

Mitchell has served for several years on the Computational Geometry Steering Committee, often as Chair. He is on the editorial board of the journals Discrete and Computational Geometry, Computational Geometry: Theory and Applications, Journal of Computational Geoemtry, and the Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications, and is an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Computational Geometry

Aurum Solis, ”Gold of the Sun”, is a magical order founded in England in 1897 by George Stanton and Charles Kingold which claims descent from the Ogdoadic Tradition of the Western Mystery Tradition. It is best known through the published works of two of its leaders, Vivian Godfrey and Leon Barcynski. Better known by their pseudonyms, Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips, the husband and wife team together authored many books on different aspects of magical practice, such as ”Astral Projection” and ”Creative Visualization”, as well as their seminal work outlining the corpus of the Aurum Solis and the Ogdoadic Tradition, ”The Magical Philosophy.”

Despite being a small Tradition and Order, in comparison to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and its descendents or various Thelemic orders, it remains a distinct and unique system of magical philosophy and practice.
